Information Security Tips

ATM TRANSACTIONS

  • Be aware of your surroundings while walking to the ATM. If you see anyone acting in a suspicious way, leave the area and look for another ATM terminal.
  • Do not use an ATM if it is isolated or if it is in an environment that is not well lit.
  • Memorize your ATM personal identification number (PIN) and never disclose it to anyone. Do not keep your PIN numbers or passwords in your wallet and never write them on the cards themselves.
  • Avoid using easily available personal information such as birthdays, mother’s maiden name or consecutive numbers which can be easily guessed by adversaries.
  • Do not spend too much time withdrawing or counting money at the ATM.
  • Do not use an ATM if it appears to have any attached or affixed devices or has alterations to the card slot or keypad.
  • If the ATM retains your card, call us to cancel it immediately or login on eBOS Internet Banking or Mobile App to disable your card.
  • Do not leave the ATM machine until the screen confirms the session has ended.
  • Do not let other people use your card. If the card is lost or stolen, report the incident immediately to the bank or login on eBOS Internet Banking or Mobile App to disable your card.
  • Do not leave the transaction receipts in the ATM.
  • Compare ATM receipts to monthly statements. This is the best way to guard against fraud.
  • If the ATM is not working correctly, cancel the transaction and use a different ATM. If possible, report the problem to the bank.
  • Be mindful of “shoulder surfers” when using ATMs. Stand close to the ATM and shield the keypad with your hand when keying in the PIN and transaction amount.

GENERAL SECURITY TIPS

  • Look out for unexplained account or network activity, pop ups, and suspicious emails. If detected, immediately contact us, stop all online activity and disconnect any systems that may have been compromised. Keep records of what happened.
  • Avoid opening attachments in emails you were not expecting. Be particularly aware of emails that warn of some dire consequence unless you take action immediately.

  • Do not disclose personal information such as your address, mother’s maiden name, telephone number, bank account number or e-mail address to anyone.
  • Never give personal information to anyone over the phone.
  • Promptly and thoroughly review the transaction alerts sent by us and reconcile monthly credit card and bank statements for any errors or unauthorized transactions.
  • Immediately notify the bank if there are unauthorized entries or transactions found in the account.
